Whole nutmeg is the dried inner seed of the Myristica fragrans tree, prized for its warm, sweet, aromatic flavour that is best preserved until it is freshly grated. It enhances both sweet and savoury dishes, and is commonly used in baking, eggnog, mulled wine, creamy sauces and roasted vegetables. Keeping the seed whole provides greater potency and freshness than pre-ground varieties.
